These awards make a total of 42 awards for the Dos Aves brewery since we started operations in December 2012.

[leer en español] We did it again!  Up against almost 50 other submissions for the American pale ale category at this year's Cerveza Mexico 2017 professional beer competition, our Dos Aves Pale Ale received its second gold medal in three years.

Our IPA Imperial also won with a silver medal in the Double IPA category.  This marks the first win for our IPA Imperial, and it also means that our four year-round beers are all award winners!

The Cerveza Mexico competition is the most important professional beer competition in Mexico with entries from all over the country and abroad.  The beers are judged by an international panel of certified industry experts.  These awards are the validation that motivates us to continue to produce beers of excellent quality. We know we're on the right track and appreciate the recognition from our peers.

The Dos Ave Pale Ale Almost Wins Best-of-Show in Copa Mexico 2017

After all of the gold medals are awarded, there is one final round where all of the gold medal winners are judged one last time, to determine the one beer that stands out above the rest.  That beer is awarded the prize of Best of Show.

Our Dos Aves Pale Ale made it to the very end and lost by a hair to an Imperial Stout made by The Beer Factory.

If you want to see how it all unfolded, forward to minute 25:24 of this video posted by LupulinaPDB.

(español) 4 years! How time flies when you’re having fun.  The days of our humble beginnings now seem like a distant memory, but some things haven’t changed.  We continue to produce everything by hand with the best quality ingredients.  Our ales continue to be made by beer enthusiasts for beer enthusiasts.

To celebrate our 4th anniversary this winter season, we present to you the Dos Aves Anniversary Ale 2016, our interpretation of the classic Belgian Strong Dark Ale.  This ale has a dark brown, almost ruby color, and notes of dates, raisins and other dried fruits, as well as a bit of spice, primarily of black pepper.  Our Dos Aves Anniversary Ale 2016 can be enjoyed right away or years to come.

Thank you for your continued support of our dream!

Our Small lot of Belgian Blond Ale is Ready NOW!

11/14/2016

Comments

Our Dos Aves Belgian style blond ale is a moderate-strength light-golden ale with a subtly tart and fruity, spicy Belgian yeast complexity, a slightly malty-sweet flavor, and medium-dry finish.

This ale has a spicy hop nose, with a lightly grainy-sweet malt character. The subtle yeast aromas include spicy phenolics, honey-like alcohol, and fruity esters. Light sweetness is also evident.

With low hop flavor and bitterness, our version of this classic Belgian style ale has a smooth, moderate grainy-sweet and slightly tart flavor initially, but finishes medium-dry with some smooth alcohol becoming evident in the aftertaste.

The medium-high carbonation of this beer gives it a mouth-filling bubbly sensation.

Our Dos Aves Belgian style ale is on sale now.  We invite you to give it a taste, and let us know what you think.  Cheers!

An Article About the Dos Aves Brewery in Poblanerias.com

7/31/2016

Comments

(Español) This article was a bit unexpected, especially since it was written in Puebla, a state where we are just starting to sell Dos Aves beers.  It is nice to see that our beer is being recognized outside of our core market area.  Below is the article translated to English.

Cerveceria Dos Aves, The First Microbrewery in San Miguel de Allende

Picture
The Dos Aves Brewery is found in the heart of Mexico, in the best city of Latin America: San Miguel de Allende.

Francisco Kameko y Mark Taylor
have been producing a variety of beers since 2012.  The increasing popularity of craft beer in Mexico made this project possible.

The founders met at a homebewing class in Cabrillo College, near Santa Cruz, California.  From there the idea to start a microbrewery arose, and the founders selected San Miguel de Allende in the state of Guanajuato to do it.

Since the start, The brewery and its brewers have won several awards and accolades.  For example, (before opening the brewery) one of the brewers won a bronce medal at the Mexico Amateur Beer Competition 2012 with a Dunkelweizen. This same style also won a Gold Medal at the Beervana Amateur Beer Competition in Sonoma California.

Their Triple Belga (a Belgian Tripel) won Bronce at the 2014 Professional Beer Competition "Competencia Profesional Copa Cerveza México 2014;

In 2015, The Dos Aves Brewery won two gold medals for their American Pale and Russian Imperial Stout.

Meanwhile, in 2016, Dos Aves won two silver medals at the Summer Beer Fest Challenge Chihuahua 2016.

Some of their Creations:

Pale Ale:
With an intense gold color, this beer has a hoppy aroma of fruits, flowers and citrus.  Its flavor is of tropical and citrus fruits.  This beer pairs well with a variety of plates including hamburgers, tacos and cheeses.

Triple Belga: This light golden Belgian Tripel has a slight haze, and a white foamy head.  The fusion of its ingredients give it a slightly sweet flavor with a low bitterness.  This beer can be paired with a variety of (white) meats.

Stout Seca:  This (seasonal) dark ale has dark-roasted malt and caramel flavors.  This dry stout can be paired with all kinds of meat and fish as well as desserts.

IPA Imperial:  This beer has the highest amount of alcohol by volume.  It has a light golden color with an intense bitterness and hoppy aroma.  This beer is crisp and refreshing and can be paired with meat, chicken and cheese.

An Article about Cervecería Dos Aves in Travesías Magazine

Revistatravesias.com recently published an article about Cervecería Dos Aves.  We really like their description of us as an "indie brewery"! Below is an image of the article.  To read it in Spanish, click on the image.

A couple of weeks after this article was publishes, we found out that two of our seasonal releases, a Gueuze and "¡Diablos!", our super popular Belgian Golden Strong Ale that we released to commemorate our third anniversary as a brewery, won silver medals at the 2016 Summer Beer Fest Challenge in Chihuahua.

Below is the full article translated to English.

Picture
Dos Aves: The Indie Brewery of San Miguel de Allende

We visited the Premium Microbrewery of San Miguel de Allende and tried their finest selection of beers.

The Mexican central region of el Bajío is not only producing wine and cars; small local breweries are starting to emerge here also, offering excellent beer. One of these is Cervecería Dos Aves, which was founded in 2012 and was the first craft brewery in San Miguel de Allende.

You can find its alchemic center just 10 minutes away from downtown on the way to Celaya. You can immediately feel that homebrewing atmosphere, but the brewery has mastered its production method to obtain a capacity of 800 gallons, or 26BBL, monthly of five different beer styles (plus one seasonal).

Its founders, Francisco Kameko and Mark Taylor, met when Francisco took home brewing classes from Mark at Cabrillo College, in Santa Cruz, California, about nine years ago.  One afternoon, a pair of crows were poised on a tree and kept them company during the brew session, and hence their name (Dos Aves means Two Birds in Spanish). Their passion for brewing eventually brought them to San Miguel de Allende to undertake what they call their “indie brewery”.

The craft beer boom, primarily in the United States, has forced many large companies to absorb the smaller ones. Remaining independent allows them to create a real craft beer with top of the line ingredients. “We make beer that we like to drink, we enjoy making it and we do it well” says Francisco, who, along with being a brewer, acts as marketing and finance director.

Mark, the brewmaster and main alchemist, comments, the hops “are imported from Oregon”, while the American and European grain is obtained through a Chihuahua importer. Mark and Francisco are members of the American Home Brewers Association and consider that “there is a beer style for everyone”.

Their menu, although brief, offers a range of styles that amateur and expert beer aficionados love.

IPA Imperial. This Double India Pale Ale is “made West Coast style” Mark comments. That is, more bitter and light. It is “very popular among women”, contrary to popular belief in Mexico.

Pale Ale. This American Pale Ale is also made West Coast style. It is bitter and delicious and received the gold medal at the 2015 Professional Beer Competition “Competencia Profesional Copa Cerveza México 2015”.

Imperial Stout. This beer is a Russian Imperial Stout and is intense and robust with 9 percent alcohol by volume.  It has great balance. The Imperial Stout won the gold at the 2015 Professional Beer Competition “Competencia Profesional Copa Cerveza México 2015”.  It is the house’s favorite.

Belgium Tripel. This Tripel Ale received a bronze at the 2014 Professional Beer Competition “Competencia Profesional Cerveza México 2014. Spicy and complex.

Session. 3.5. This beer, English Mild style, a subcategory of English Brown, with 3.5% of alcohol per volume, has caramel and a toasted nut flavor. “Its low level of alcohol allows you to drink it at a friend’s gathering, Francisco suggests.

We had the exclusive opportunity to try a beer that is not for sale yet. The style is “gueuze”, popular in Belgium. It took a year to mature and according to Dos Aves, has a “very funky” flavor… with an after taste of psychedelic “pulque” (A Mexican beverage made from fermented maguey (agave)). When it comes to making beer, like Mark says you have to add “the spark” that will set it apart from the rest.
